The Wife® and I have been having ongoing discussions regarding the ever-increasing crudeness of the “Breast Cancer Awareness” movement.
It started, as far as I can remember, a few years ago. I started noticing those awareness ribbons emblazoned with slogans like “Save the Ta-Tas.” It was a bit shocking, but probably effective, since it was certainly memorable.
Things have gone down-hill rapidly.
The other day I was invited to sponsor a Breast Cancer walk team called “Walkers for Knockers.” The “I Heart Boobies” bracelet movement has caused some issues in schools.
And now, courtesy of New Zealand, we’ve taken the next logical step down the slippery slope: send in a pic of your boobs to my website. It’s like totally for cancer research and stuff. (Link is decidedly NSFW)
I’d venture that I’m as pro-boob as anyone, but I’m not really sure that we’re on the right path here. But maybe that’s just me.
Update: Maybe I’m not alone after all. The following update was posted to the boob site today.
Tuesday 7th December 2010. The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation have requested we clarify any reader confusion and state that the ‘lovely pair’ campaign is in no way supported or endorsed by The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

#1) put your NSFW disclaimers BEFORE the link.
#2) I know 2 more people who agree.
I hate those bracelets with a passion. Seriously-teach kids it is ok to say “boobies”. What the crap. Grr. And, I can also say-I know a few people that actually think this is ok.
It’s another symptom in a very long list of compromises that rip at the very simple foundations of a culture that at one time actually strove to be morally upright. My awkward comparison is this: TSA body scanners and groping. It’s nothing new, it’s the same junk the atheist elite have been spewing for decades. The idea is that dignity and morality are stupid little ideas that don’t count, and what really matters is physical health. Here’s another one: did you know that in CPR classes they’ve been teaching people that as soon as you happen upon an unconscious victim to rip their shirt and bra off before doing anything else? I spoke with an EMT about this and they say it’s because there’s the off chance that you may at some point have to use the AED to shock their heart, and the under-wire in bras super-heats and burns people. I told that person that if they end up doing CPR on my wife, I’ll be grateful, and then in addition to feeling gratitude, I will certainly feel the breaking of EMT teeth against my boot. Just how it goes. Hey, why not rip the victim’s pants off while you’re at it and check their private bits? What if they have a festering lesion or animal bite or bullet wound that’s killing them? Why not? Because it simply hasn’t gone that far yet. Give it time. In a few years we might just have a CPR class that teaches people to rip all the clothes off and manually molest the body and then ask bystanders to assist in case you miss something. Hey, it’s all in the name of health, so it’s okay. It’s gotten to the point where it’s basically an assault on dignity. The save the boobs thing is no different. It’s porn, sure, but that’s just immoral. Morals don’t matter we’re talking about improving health here! I very much believe there are 3rd options in all these scenarios, but you won’t see them presented because we’ve sunk into this trend of sacrificing anything in the name of physical health.
