Here it is, patent number7617530. Thanks, USPTO, for giving Microsoft, which is already a monopoly, a monopoly on something that’s been in use since 1980 and wasn’t invented by Microsoft. Here’s Wikipedia’s description of sudo, which you can meaningfully compare to Microsoft’s description of its “invention”.

As shown here, MS seems to think that it’s truly being innovative and original. I admit (as someone who regularly uses sudo), that a tiered or category-specific structure for command authentication would be far better than a single root password and a superuser to wield it. As the article goes it gets more complex than that, but the point is the patent office really needs to do better homework or it will enable frivolous litigation about patent violation vs prior art, or something like that.
