Mariamu Stanford, a soft-spoken, 28-year-old single mother from rural Tanzania, has earned a grim distinction: She’s one of only two people with albinism — a group that has faced discrimination in East Africa — to survive a brutal attack by those wanting to sell the limbs of albinos on the black market.

Isn’t it 2009? The 21st Century?
Really? Witchdoctors?
Oo ee, oo ah ah. Ting tang. Walla walla bing bang… and I’ll give you straight cash for a pasty human foot.
They also pronounce it “al-bean-oh.”
This isn’t one to joke about. I watched the ABC special-and ended up crying. It was terrible-these people are being terrorized over there just for being albino! It is horrible to watch. They are even sold out by fellow villagers, to make money! It was not a pretty sight, and very heart wrenching.
I’ll accept that admonishment. You’re right, I went too far. I certainly don’t intend to minimize what these victims have experienced.
I think the shock of the stupidity and blatant evilness of these witchdoctors got to me. It’s an easy response to want to be sarcastic about their madness. Either way I was wrong so I apologize to anyone who saw my previous comment as callous.
Oh! I wasn’t admonishing you! I just know that I take it a little more seriously after having watched that. I had no idea that things like that still happened in this world, and to see it was very eye opening. No admonishing, I promise!!
Kalena, you’re cool, no worries
I reread what I wrote and decided that it isn’t the best attitude for me to display about this topic. And really, thank you for bringing it up so that I could notice that!
Additionally, I don’t see admonishing as either positive or negative. I think it’s the reason and means that make it good or bad.
There is nothing off limits for joking. If we stop joking, then the terrorists have already won.
Jeff-
Remember that look I gave you in the car? You are getting it now, mister!
Then I have succeeded.
