Thousands of angry protesters marched in China’s only Muslim-majority region today to demand government action over a series of hit-and-run syringe attacks blamed on the ethnic Uighur group.

Seriously? Syringe attacks? My God, how many have died?

The China Daily website said no one had been infected or poisoned by the syringe stabbings.

That’s weird. So either the syringe is used only to inspire terror or the government has a vested interest in not disclosing the details.

An official at the regional People’s Hospital said: “This is a secret matter. Only the government is authorised to give information.”

Yeah, but we learn basically nothing since the Chinese government isn’t known for being forthcoming about anything, ever, even hyperboles.

A Han Chinese man told The Times: “Thousands of people, maybe tens of thousands gathered in People’s Square today to protest. We don’t believe the Government is doing enough to protect us from these syringe attacks.”
The crowd chanted: “Useless government, useless government” as they milled for hours in the city’s main square.

It’s almost humorous in the lessons we can glean from this. A communist area where (maybe) tens of thousands of people show up to protest about how the government doesn’t protect them from a few stabbings with a syringe. And I’m not minimizing the attacks, that’s truly horrifying to think about.

Really though?! Can you imagine that happening in New York? They’d have this jerk tied up with a couple fresh bruises 8 minutes before police arrive. Even the mobsters there would have a level of dignity, and most certainly don’t want people to be slaughtered in riots. I guess I can understand that it’s a complicated situation, but seriously…

…riots that left 197 dead…

I just don’t get it.
