I was going to title this entry “Tom is the harbinger of death” but since it’s our 1,000th post, I had to go with it instead! So, happy 1,000th post, interweb!
I say I’m the harbinger of death because at least 3 (and now 4) of these 1,000 posts were by me reporting on someone’s death.
On the list this time: David Arneson, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons. Unfortunately, it looks like he failed his saving throw vs. cancer.
He is preceded in death by other co-creator, [the more famous due to his appearance in an episode of Futurama] Gary Gygax. (He’s very… (rolls a series of dice)… HAPPY to meet you.)
According to this article;
An estimated 20 million people have played the game in which players create characters who embark on imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. Characters solve dilemmas, engage in battles and gather treasure and knowledge, and in the process earn points to become increasingly powerful over a series of sessions.
The creation of the game also led to the increased consumption of pizza, Doritos, and Mt. Dew.

“Failed his saving throw vs. Cancer.”
Both funny and wrong, all at the same time.
And I can’t believe you jacked the 1,000 post from me. I’ve been watching the number slowly tick up over time… Drat.
