The centre operates several cameras that are used to catch images of meteors falling from the sky.
A meteor fell to the Earth in Canada last night. Estimates are that it weighed about 1 to 7 tonnes. But remember, this is Canada, so with the exchange rate it’s probably about .75 to 5.5 tons.
You can see pretty awesome video of the meteor falling here. This video is not from the Canadian Fireball Reporting Centre. It’s from a dashboard camera of a police car. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
The good people from the CFRC are hoping they can find some of the remnants before it snows. Meteorites that have been exposed to the elements tend to rust.
Oh, and yes, that part about the exchange rate was a joke, though the Canadians probably were estimating in Metric Tonnes, since they are all about the metric system up there.
