So I got the fan hung up, then noticed I had a leftover piece. I picked it up, and it was the add-on part that lets you operate the fan with a remote control. Important here because there is only one switch and I don’t want to mess around with those chains. (And because a remote control makes everything cooler.)

So I look at the instructions (a separate piece of paper) and they clearly say “If you are installing this kit in a new fan, use these directions instead of the directions in the box for everything after step 2.” Sigh.

That lead to dismantling the previous day’s work and starting anew. But the @#%$@#$ remote kit has to fit in a tiny little space at the top of the fan, and there is no margin whatsoever for error.

Well if you know the way I do home improvement projects, you know that I live exclusively within that margin of error. So, suffice it to say, the original install took about an hour. The re-install with the remote kit took about 3. We also had some near drops of the whole fan unit for good measure. Whoops-a-daisy!

We’re back in business now, but I really made an error in judgment locating my new desk right below that fan. This could be a future disaster waiting to happen.

Oh well, in the meantime I have a really cool remote controlled ceiling fan.
