I’ve been doing a lot of reading since the abrupt replacement of the CEO of The Wife®’s company yesterday. Having just been through the implosion of a company, I’m not thrilled about going through another one. Especially since this one had me relocating several thousand miles from home.
One thing I noticed in the coverage is that the StarTribune (One of the worst newspapers in existence) seemed to have a real problem with Mr. Cooper (No, not that Mr. Cooper)
Obviously, you’d expect the Strib to hate on a former chair of the MNGOP. That’s natural. But this seemed more personal. After some reading, I think it’s pretty obvious. You can always follow the $.
You see, a few years ago, the guys at Powerline (one of the best blogs ever- Time Magazine approved!) were victims of an attack by the petty and bitter Nick Coleman of the StarTribune.
The saga is recapped pretty well here.
Anyway, Mr. Cooper came to the defense of the free speech rights of his employees, and issued this response to the StarTribune:
One thing I can assure you of is that if your columnists can suggest that people stop banking at TCF because of the political activities of one of its employees, TCF will never spend another dollar on advertising in the Star Tribune as long as I am Chairman.
I can’t speak to the actual ad $ spend before and after this date, but I have to give him credit for the principle. It’s probably a pretty good bet to skip the Strib advertising anyway, since no one is reading it anyway.

Jeff = boring our audience…
So which one- good post or boring? And, how could any post that links to a picture of Mr. Cooper be boring?
OK Anonymous- #1. Feel free to register and post as yourself. You are welcome here. I like a spirited debate.
#2. Disagreement is OK, but please list your source. Not sure what you are talking about re: Public transportation. If you have a source then others can comment/form an opinion.
#3. Re: Taxes and Florida- I agree with Mr. Cooper. He’s retired (or was), he can live wherever he wants. I won’t fault someone for developing the means to avoid oppressive taxes. That’s the free market. Just because someone makes a ton of cash in MN doesn’t mean that they “owe” the state perpetual taxes. I certainly don’t think LEGAL strategies for avoiding taxes are a sign of untrustworthiness.
I don’t think it was boring.
I tend to agree with the guy too. Anyone remember how clean Mpls was when public transportation was shut down? And how many people REALLY were catastrophically effected by it – didn’t everyone else figure a way around it?
As for the tax thing… I also have to agree with the sentiment that if you don’t think the government is spending your tax dollars correctly… move. Well – or run for office and make a change, but moving is an option too.
Though I will be the first to admit the only information I have on this topic is information I learned from this post.
OK – to keep everyone up to date, I was contacted and asked to remove 2 comments from this blog for reasonable reasons. If you want more information, please contact me. Thanks!
Tom, then why did you say this: “Jeff = boring our audience…”? And by the way, I never said it was boring, I just meant I was too lazy to read it all, because by the end I would have forgotton what the first five sentences were.
I read it all.
Bill Cooper, the right-winger who’s motto is “Defund Government Programs”. Suckle that payout teat Billy, suckle it well.
Believe me, my disappointment runs deep with the bailout issue. I’m not quite sure why TCF felt the need to belly up to the trough.
